The section of the Basilicata of Italian Confederation of Farmers (CIA) has published a note to investigate again the emergence of wild boars in the region. In particular, a fussy (province of Potenza) the ungulates attacked a company, literally bringing the Biodiversity Center to its knees, a fundamental point of reference for the local agricultural world. This means that the emergency is not over: The CIA has been repeating for years that wildlife is out of control, but a solution to the problem has not yet been found.
There is no lack of reports of wolves, who usually go down to the valley in winter to reach the livestock farms. The numbers leave no room for doubt, in Basilicata there are 123 thousand wild boars, one for every 4,5 inhabitants: 23 were shot down in 2015. Lucanian farmers consider it important to present a law that includes an adequate system of compensation for damages, preventive conservation activities and plans for the containment of harmful species.
The effort required of politicians and institutions must therefore be greater, with a control plan to be implemented urgently e without hesitation. The containment, again according to the CIA Basilicata, should also concern reserves and parks: the hope is that the cry of alarm will be heard loud and clear.
