A few days ago the Cabinet has decided to challenge the Veneto regional law which provides for the training of hawks for hunting. According to government sources, the Region would have gone beyond its powers, violating when required by the reads 157 of the 1992. The training we are talking about is possible all year round, while we never talk about capturing wildlife.
The standard also includes provisions regarding the dog tests. The CdM has specified that it has not found the right distinction between the actual training and hunting in the strict sense. In addition, some potential impact on wildlife and on the period of reproduction of the latter.
Another contested provision is the one that has to do with the use of falconers by the Veneto Region: these are professionals with specific requirements who can control invasive species, in addition to the rehabilitation of birds of prey. This part of the law was also considered to be in conflict with the national law on hunting: in particular, falconers are equated with hunters and cannot be authorized to perform the various abatement plans. Now a reply from the local authority is expected to understand what will happen in the coming months.
