Hawks in flight on the historic center of Montepulciano. Very fast and incredibly precise in their trajectories, the birds of prey - two of the Sacra variety and a Peregrine Falcon - were rescued by a professional falconer. Client of the assignment is the Municipality, which has launched an experiment to evaluate the effectiveness of this predator on the pigeon population which unfortunately lives in the historic centers, causing evident damage to the urban decor, the environment, the architectural assets themselves.
Beyond the curiosity that aroused the operation, for the mastery shown by the conductor, and also of the undeniable fascination exercised by the hawks, the greatest interest lies precisely in the results of the experiment which will be repeated five more times in the historic centers of the capital and Valiano. From the first flyby, the presence of predators has induced the pigeons to move away. The census, which has already begun, of the remaining colonies (or come back) in the historic center will also make it possible to identify other possible contrast strategies. From the results it will be seen whether to expand the plan (Corriere di Siena).
