David Bacciu (Hunting Federation), Bonifacio Cuccu (ANLC-UCS) and Marco Efisio Pisanu (CRF component) have released this note addressed to Sardinian hunters: "With regard to the collection of the viscera of wild lagomorphs for health investigations, we inform you that, following our request to theExperimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Sardinia who is in charge of the research, we have been informed that the analyzes are currently underway and will be concluded as soon as possible.
We also inform you that about 90 samples from all over the region which, unfortunately, are not yet sufficient to achieve the set goal. In this regard, we hope that the Health Department will act together with the Environment Department, in order to highlight the importance of the sampling for research purposes, and consequently the reopening of rabbit hunting, with a minimum game bag, to be defined in the regional wildlife committee on the basis of the indications of the Sardinian zooprophylactic institute is reached.
Veterinarians have expressed appreciation for the voluntary contribution of the hunters and ask that the collaboration continue so that any rabbits or hares found dead in the regional territory are reported and conferred, which will be analyzed and will be useful to scientific research as a passive epidemiological surveillance activity. Even if the purpose has not yet been achieved, we want to thank the Department of Health for having accepted the proposal of the VV.AA., the Councilor for the Environment for having supported the cause and the ATS Veterinary Service for availability ".
