THEElba island becomes area not suitable for wild boars. The Region has in fact approved the proposal of the councilor for Agroalimentare Stefania Saccardi to transform the whole island territory into an unsuitable area, in an area where restocking is not foreseen and in which the selection hunt and the animal catches. The proposal, which had the approval of the strategic environmental assessment first and of the Regional Council then, comes following the requests of many realities of the island, starting from the mayors and farmers, to try to contain the problems caused by these animals: from the risks of road accidents damage to crops.
In fact, as an unsuitable area, wild boar hunting will no longer be limited to the periods provided for by the hunting calendar, allocating the rest of the year to restocking, but it will always be possible to intervene with selection hunting activities and with the operations of capturing the animals which are then destined for slaughter. Satisfaction with this choice was obviously expressed by the councilor Saccardi, who underlined the fact that the new status will allow a strengthening of wild boar control interventions and better wildlife management. But the commissioner also reiterated the importance of this choice as a shared choice and as a participatory path that involved the Region, the local administrations of the island, the Elba ATC and the Tuscan Archipelago National Park.
The request to adopt this solution was in fact sent by all the mayors of the island, which has 7 municipalities, as recalled by the president of the Park community Angelo Zini. The same president of the National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago, Giampiero Sammuri, spoke of a "step forward towards solving the problem", and reiterated that the Park's commitment to catching habits has never stopped and that it will now intensify as soon as the treatment site is ready. carcasses, already identified and currently under construction (Agricultural news).
