Mostly sunny days
Il Italian Wood Pigeon Club provided interesting information on the migration of this species in October. Here are the details for Sunday, October 5, 2025: "After the recent weather disturbance that crossed the Adriatic regions today with rain and storm surges, tomorrow we expect mostly sunny days and especially good weather thanks to a high pressure area centered between Germany and France. Starting tomorrow, an interesting corridor will open up towards us for migration from the northeastern European regions, where thunderstorms are still present in patches. In the absence of any such storms and with PH values gradually increasing both in the fledging regions and in our country, the coming days will truly create optimal weather conditions for our migrants to begin their journey to their wintering grounds."
The latest news
Then there's the update for Saturday, October 11: "Weather conditions remain optimal for wood pigeon migration. A large area of high pressure, centered on England, is affecting all of Europe... including Italy."
Good presence
The note from two days ago continues: "Especially in the northern regions, the values will be significant (around 28 hPA) and could lead, (the conditional is a must) with winds forecast from the north/northwest, starting tomorrow morning, Sunday, October 12, causing flocks of wood pigeons to depart from resting areas both in our territory and in Slovenia and Croatia. What supports the idea that we could see many wood pigeons in the coming days, in addition to the good weather due to the absence of thunderstorms, is the disposition of the predominant northeast winds forecast until next Thursday. Good luck to everyone."
