The growing and uncontrolled presence of some species of wildlife on the regional territory it is causing considerable damage to our crops, human activities and the ecosystem itself - says the parent company of the Brothers of Italy in the Veneto Regional Council Sergio Berlato. It is enormous damage, not only from an economic point of view, but also from a social and environmental point of view, to which the implementation of the WolfAlps Project, to which the Veneto Regional Council has also adhered economically, has not been able to remedy. In accordance with what is required of us by the European Union itself, it is essential to intervene in an effective and complete manner on the issue - continues the Regional Councilor Sergio Berlato -, for this reason we have filed a draft law on management and containment of the wolf, in full compliance with the Community Directives in force and in full compliance with the recent sentence of the Constitutional Court which declared the full legitimacy of the regulations recently issued on the matter by Trentino Alto Adige.
It is now evident, especially now that the mountain pasture season is in progress, that the socio-economic system, unique of its kind, of our mountains is further undermined by the growing uncontrolled presence of large carnivores and that the absence of certain data on the real consistency of the phenomenon, an element that could help the workers to estimate and effectively prevent risk, aggravate the situation and further worry all the farmers, the Malghesi and the families who pass on the tradition of the mountain pasture.
In the evident inertia of the national government to which we have repeatedly invited to adopt a national wolf management plan, as is the case in all the member states of the European Union - declares the President of the Third Commission on. Sergio Berlato - which provides for the monitoring, census and, where necessary, the killing of redundant wolves, we hope that the Veneto Region will implement the containment actions provided for in our draft law, since, in order to have an effective solution to the problem, it is not possible to undertake operations other than those which nature requires.
When the excessive presence of a specific species compromises the balance between the other animal species or endangers the ecosystem or seriously damages human activities, it is advisable to urgently take all the necessary measures to concretely address the problem, basing every initiative on elements of a technical-scientific nature e not on ideology or emotionality of those who believe that the rights of wolves have priority over the rights of people who, with their constant work, have allowed not only the exercise of economic activities but the maintenance and protection of the territory - concludes the Regional Councilor Sergio Berlato.
