La LIPU (Italian Bird Protection League) it used the XNUMXst edition of its national assembly to ask the exclusion of the lark from the list of huntable species. In practice, a campaign entitled precisely was launched "Let's save the lark" with a variety of reasons. According to the association, in fact, between 2000 and 2012 the total number of these birds is worryingly decreased across Europe, a decline of between 25 and 35 percentage points.
The decline would have been even more severe over the period 1990-2012, i.e. between 35 and 45%. The League also stressed the “Bad state of conservation” of the skylark in Italy. The hunt was defined devastating in this case, in particular for the weight difference between a cartridge (60 grams) and that of the animal (40). The speech by Marco Gustin, Head of Species and Research, highlighted how the legal killings are equal to 1,8 million in our country (73% of the European total), to which the “large quantities of illegal killing” must be added.
In addition, larks would be confused too often with other non-huntable species, in particular the pipit, the grille, the cappellaccia and the tottavilla. The objective of the LIPU is to mobilize citizens as much as possible, as has already happened on the occasion of the abolition of catches of the so-called "live lures", for a collection of signatures to be sent to Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.
