During the session of last 21 April of the Regional Council of Lombardy, there was the presentation of a communication by Gianni Fava, Councilor for Agriculture. It is a document that concerns the exercise of exceptions, as required by article 9 of the Birds Directive. In a nutshell, the Regional Council was informed of the intention of the Region to activate the hunting notwithstanding, in order to authorize the taking of finches, starlings and brambles.
Also, don't forget the catch of song thrushes, stone thrushes, cesene and blackbirds, specimens to be used as live decoys. This activation is nothing more than the consequence of the various communications received from the Ministry of the Environment. Last year, in fact, the Italian regions knew that they had the possibility to activate the mechanism of derogations, respecting in any case the conditions set by the Birds Directive.
As Fava pointed out, the Regional Councilorship for Agriculture had proposed a technical working table in 2016, in order to involve all the regions concerned, the competent ministries and theHigher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA). The table has taken office and there have already been two meetings, but the shared management methods have not yet been defined in detail. Now the proposals will be sent to ISPRA.
