The City of bibbiena (province of Arezzo) has decided to sign an agreement with the association Enalhunt for the management ofpigeons emergency. The administration has given its ok to cull the birds to ensure decorum and hygiene in the municipal area. Pigeons have become too many in this Tuscan city and hygiene problems can no longer be solved with regular cleaning. The historic center recorded the greatest number of damages and therefore a revitalization and redevelopment project was started.
The municipality was also forced to limit traffic and reduce the number of parking spaces. Here is what you can read in the press release of the mayor of Bibbiena: "The cleaning interventions, although punctual, are no longer sufficient to keep the streets and squares clean, given the high number of birds which focused mainly on certain areas such as the historic center of Bibbiena.
For these reasons we have signed an agreement with Enalcaccia in order to define one culling campaign to be carried out within the fields of direct farmers with whom, in turn, a specific agreement has been found. Upon arrival of the authorization from the Region of Tuscany, these paths will begin containment of the number of birds in question. While waiting to start with this path, the administration advises to equip themselves with bollards for certain strategic points, to close gorges and refuge situations chosen by the pigeons for nesting ”.
