THEPark Authority of the Murgia Materana, as part of the "INNGreenPAF" project funded by the Environment Department of Basilicata region, has been facing for months the negative phenomenon linked to the strong presence of wild boars in the Park areas. Actions have been put in place aimed at reduce the large number of the species with the aim of achieving a balance with the surrounding environment and, in this regard, to avoid a bloody way, manhole covers have been created to capture the living animals and remove them from hunting farms or slaughterhouses.
As already communicated in the past, i catch manholes located in the vicinity of farms, as well as the identification through a call for tenders of a company authorized to take animals for consideration, would allow the Park Authority to adequately restore farms, falling within the protected area, whose crops are severely affected. We learn with regret that there are still no conditions to proceed with the capture due to bureaucratic problems.
We highlight how this issue must be addressed in a practical way, since there continues to be damage and, unfortunately, serious road accidents. We therefore hope that the situation will be seen as an emergency, giving the possibility to take advantage of exceptions which, otherwise, do not allow to resolve the issue in a concrete way. The President of the Murgia Materana Park Authority, in fact, once again underlines that adopting exemptions and simplifying procedures is the only way to achieve the goal of restore balance to the presence of this species in the territory, therefore, it requires an institutional table in order to face the problem in a decisive way (source: Basilicata region).
