A welcome management plan
In a short video, the Coordinator of the National Federcaccia Studies and Research Office, Dr. Michele Sorrenti, invites hunters to collaborate in the collection of the wings of the pochard species, which has become huntable again thanks to the approval of the National management plan. In recent months the State-Regions Conference approved the management plan for this bird, a pleasant and welcome return to the Italian hunting calendars.
The words of Dr. Smiling
Here's what Sorrenti said about it: “I invite all Italian hunters in the regions where pochard can be harvested, in particular those in which harvesting occurs to a significant extent such as Veneto, Emilia Romagna, Lombardy and Tuscany to collaborate in the collection of the wings of the Research Office and Research by Federcaccia Nazionale”. To participate in the project you must send the wings of at least 90% of the individuals shot in the 2023-2024 hunting season. The cutting of the wing must take place at the base of the shoulder so as to take into consideration not only the wing but also the shoulder feathers. The wings, before being inserted into the PAPER bag, must be well opened and left to dry by placing them, for example, on a sheet of cardboard/polystyrene/wood placed on the ground under the radiator.
Method of collection
For each individual it is necessary to detach only one wing, right or left depending on the state of conservation. Indicate the place (province), the date of killing, the weight of the duck and the sex on a sheet of paper to be inserted inside the envelope or package with the wings. For groups of wings from the same hunting day and same date, the wings can be placed in a single envelope or in a box and sent all together, perhaps at the end of the season (it is important to always communicate the data already indicated above in this case too). The envelopes should be sent preferably by February 2024 to Dr. Marco Fasoli at the address: Strada dell'Alpo 106/a, Verona 37136. Cell: 3470557445.
