Presented in 2014, the revolutionary side-by-side shot by Beretta in collaboration with Marc Newson, one of the most prestigious industry designers of our day, is characterized by a line never seen before where the elongated receiver blends harmoniously with the wood of the stock. A very special fine gun, of which the disappearance of the action frame tail immediately catches the eye with the oval of the safety / selector that emerges from the wood, the underguard that fits linearly without visible screws in the lower part of the action, and the opening lever which has been designed and built in such a way as to emphasize its independence from the rest of the weapon. After the first 12-gauge version, Beretta subsequently proposed the 20-gauge and this year also the 28-gauge - both with dedicated action frames. In all shotguns, the action undoubtedly represents the heart of the weapon, and in this case it is the part that has undergone the greatest customization. The receiver of the 486 shotgun by Marc Newson is characterized by a total absence of edges, a round body to the nth degree where even the engraving is unique, inspired by the Asian myth of the dragon, symbol of the continent of origin of all the different pheasant breeds - the prey par excellence in hunting in joke. The engraving is made with an advanced laser technology that allows you to engrave the entire surface of the receiver, "wrapping" it entirely so as to maintain a sharp contrast between glossy and opaque surfaces, with a resolution that enhances every single detail of the engraving itself. .
The internal “Anson” battery operating system is characterized by the use of very fast leaf springs, classic of high quality shotguns. The hammers with rebound ensure that the strikers, even with the shotgun unloaded, remain inside the action body. The single selective trigger ensures greater speed and stability when firing the second shot, particularly performing in drive to pheasants and partridges or on all occasions where coppiole are the rule. Of course, being a brace, the stock is English style and is made with fine grade 4 wood treated with natural oil. The stock has no recoil pad and is finished with an elegant hand-made checkering. A wooden cap also allows access to the disassembly screw. The rod is also made of the same wood, and the disassembly piston is housed in an elegant metal tip. In the area of the cross there is the "ecological" system, that is a selector that allows to eliminate the automatism of the extractors: a device particularly appreciated by those who do not want to let the shells fall on the ground and prefer instead to extract them manually.
Returning to our test, picking up the shotgun in cal. 28 you immediately have the feeling of being in front of a superior class weapon, just the right light (2,8 kg). The small action frame made specifically for this caliber blends harmoniously with the stock, ensuring agility and at the same time an excellent reaction to the shot. By acting on the small opening key, characteristic of the shotgun designed by Marc Newson, the shotgun is opened and you can observe the perfect concentric rings of the internal reflection of the Beretta OptimaBore HP barrels, cold hammered and vacuum-packed. The barrels are much more elegant than those of a normal side-by-side: this is due to the Triblock technology, which eliminates the need to have visible welding lines. The polishing of the barrels is carried out exclusively by hand, as is the case with the most refined and sought-after Premium shotguns. Closing the Beretta 486 by Marc Newson in caliber 28 you can hear the classic "cloc", characteristic of a perfect coupling between action and barrels, finished and optimized manually.
For the occasion we went to the TAV Il Bettolino in Trenzano (Brescia). The hunting course is certainly a good test bench for a shotgun dedicated to hunting, and from the first shots I am well impressed by the stability and speed in target acquisition: even when the second shot is needed, the shotgun always remains perfectly aligned. The pleasure of firing a shotgun is unparalleled, and when it comes to a classy rifle such as the 486 by Marc Newson, especially in caliber 28, pleasure is guaranteed. The extractors work wonderfully even when the rifle has red-hot barrels from the many shots fired. Now I am just waiting for the opportunity to try it hunting but, considering the ease of breaking the targets, I am sure it will not disappoint and can give great emotions to its lucky owners.
