The Selecontrollers, who they are and how to become one

The selecontroller is almost a mysterious figure, and although anyone who has heard of it at least once, its role and functions in the hunting world are not always clear. All the useful tips to become a selecontroller hunter.

The figure of the selecontroller reconnects to the variegated sector of selection hunting and in general it is a hunter with specific qualifications.

To become a selecontroller, a specific training course will have to be carried out, at the end of which the hunter will have to pass the relative exam that will enable him to the chosen profession.

Among the main tasks of the selecontroller is that of assisting the provincial Hunting Agents in all control interventions (mainly numerical) of those animal species, which due to excessive protection or optimal settlement in the territory, are called intrusive. One of the animals that most often is subjected to selection hunting, and which is therefore the object of the attention of the selecontroller, is certainly the wild boar, whose excessive reproduction causes problems within the group, and external, especially aimed at agricultural activity.

The term "selecontroller" itself has been directly changed by the national experience of selection hunting aimed mainly at ungulates, becoming part of the hunter's vocabulary over time.
Of selection hunting, selecontroller and therefore of numerical control of the fauna, we mainly speak in article 17 of the national law on hunting (n. species and in relation to particular environmental conditions, which differ from region to region. The changes to the hunting terms must be provided for by the Regions in collaboration with the National Institute for Wildlife and the authorization will depend on the presentation of an adequate hunting fauna plan. This particular type of hunting can not only be applied also in protected areas and special periods, but it is expected to continue until after sunset unlike the usual hunting activity.

The selecontroller is therefore an expert hunter in the collection of the ungulate which the selection hunting is aimed at, who has the possibility to hunt even during periods and hours in which the hunting activity is normally forbidden, in protected areas, but which in any case is always places under the supervision of the Provincial Hunting Agents, who will check compliance in the work and the protocol that regulates the activity of these very delicate figures. The Hunting Agents will even have the task of deciding on the destination of the garments collected.
The merit of the selecontrollers is certainly that of being able, through targeted sampling, to stem all those problems that derive from an immeasurable density of a particular species, in those areas often subject to anthropic use, limiting damage to crops and guaranteeing public safety.

Although each Region, according to its needs, creates the figure of the selecontroller that is right for you, in general we can say that the characteristics of the professional are always similar: he must be authorized by the provinces, he must have followed a training course and an exam enabling it to prepare it for wildlife management.
The selecontroller will be registered in a provincial register and will operate in times of need.
To be updated on the possibility of following training courses, the advice is to keep in touch with hunting associations operating at the regional level. The courses, advertised well in advance, will give the selecontroller an all-round training: we will focus on the biology of the ungulate to hunt, we will follow lessons with veterinarians who will indicate the treatment to be applied to the animal once killed, we will follow a first aid course held by specialized doctors. As a rule, there is also no shortage of experts in the use of weapons, who will give advice on the best shooting techniques for killing the species.
