The whole team
Diana Bacosi, Martina Bartolomei, Jessica Rossi, Silvana Stanco, Mauro De Filippis, Tammaro Cassandro, Giovanni Pellielo and Gabriele Rossetti will be the eight shooters who will represent Italy in the Trap and Skeet competitions of XXXIII Summer Olympics in Paris 2024. The proposals of the Technical Directors Marco Conti and Andrea Benelli, approved unanimously by the Federal Council of FITAV, were made official in the Press Conference which has just ended in the CONI Board Room in the presence of the President of CONI Giovanni Malagò and the President of FITAV and ISSF Luciano Rossi. “We have done a lot to get to this Olympics in the best possible way” explained the President of FITAV at the opening – Thanks also to changes that were not easy, we achieved great results. It was neither obvious nor easy, but we are presenting ourselves in Paris as the nation that will compete with the full team. Like us only the United States. Our girls and boys have big hearts. They bring him to the stage every day to give us great emotions. Further proof is the surprise they gave me and the Federal Council today, giving us an envelope containing 2.870 euros collected with small sanctions that they self-imposed during the year and asked us to donate on behalf of FITAV to the Pediatric Hematology department of the Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome. A gesture that has a profound meaning."
The Trap
“These are days of celebration and we hope that this one lasts as long as possible. It is a golden moment for Italian sport – commented Giovanni Malagò – Our country will have to be judged by medals but also by the ability to be multidisciplinary and in recent years, thanks to everyone's help, we have tried to be competitive in every type of sport. At an individual level we are qualified for the Games in all disciplines that are part of the Olympic programme. In clay shooting we have been second in history since the Olympics existed. In Paris we will be far away (the shooting competitions will not be held in the French capital, ed.) but you will feel very close to us", concluded the President of CONI. For Trap the choice of the Umbrian coach Marco Conti fell on Jessica Rossi, Silvana Stanco, Mauro De Filippis and Giovanni Pellielo. The first, bearer of the Fiamme Oro of Crevalcore, is in her fourth participation in the Games. In addition to the gold won in London 2012 with the record-breaking race, she has three World Champion titles to her credit, two European Champion titles, a victory in the World Cup Final and one at the European Games.
Big hopes
Silvana Stanco, representative of the Fiamme Gialle di Sturno (AV), born in Switzerland, of an Italian family and raised sportingly in our country, concluded her Olympic debut in Tokyo 2020 with fifth place overall. She enters her second Five Rings competition strong with a bronze at the World Championships, a European Champion Title, a victory in the World Cup Final and a gold at the European Games. Giovanni Pellielo's record number of Olympic appearances. The standard bearer of the Fiamme Azzurre di Vercelli will celebrate his eighth participation in Paris 2024, equaling the record of the D'Inzeo brothers and Josefa Idem. In the seven previous editions he achieved three silver medals, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and Rio de Janeiro 2016, and one bronze, Sydney 2000. His palmares also includes four World Champion titles and three European Champion titles.
The Skeet
Moving on to Skeet, the Technical Director Andrea Benelli, Olympic gold medalist in Athens 2004 and bronze medalist in Atlanta 1996, has decided to field Diana Bacosi, Martina Bartolomei, Tammaro Cassandro and Gabriele Rossetti. Bacosi, standard bearer of the Italian Army, Umbrian by birth and Tuscan-Lazio by adoption, returns to the Games after the gold won in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and the silver achieved in the following edition of Tokyo 2020. The Skeet lioness has put made its intentions clear by winning the European Championship in May and the last World Cup event, both events organized in Lonato del Garda (BS), demonstrating that it has what it takes to be among the greats again. For Martina Bartolomei, representative of the Laterina Air Force (AR), it will be a debut. In the last two years she has deserved victory at the European Games, victory at the Mediterranean Games and a silver medal in the World Cup Final. After sixth place in Tokyo 2020, Tammaro Cassandro, standard bearer of the Carabinieri Sports Group of Capua, returns to the Olympics. Grandson of Ennio Falco, gold in Atlanta 1996, the shooter from Caserta has, among other results, a World bronze and a European bronze. Finally, Gabriele Rossetti, standard bearer of the Fiamme Oro of Ponte Buggianese (PT), will leave for France. Son of Bruno Mario Rossetti, bronze medalist in Barcelona 1992 in Skeet who passed away in 2018, Gabriele became Olympic Champion in Rio de Janeiro 2016, but his palmares also include a World Champion Title, a European Champion Title and a victory in the World Cup Final (source: FITAV).
