The Sicilian hunters will return to shoot the September 15th, with a pre-opening on 1. The new hunting calendar is coming: the Councilor for Agriculture Edy Bandiera has established that the season opens on 1, 4 and 8 September with the "Temporary pre-posting" for wood pigeon, magpie and jay, which will follow from September 15th the "real season". From the middle of next month it will therefore be possible to shoot rabbits, foxes, magpies, jays, turtledoves and wood pigeons, while it will be necessary to wait until October 2 for quail, blackbird, lark, cesena, thrushes, coots and almost all other species.
Wild boars, which can be hunted from 2 November, and woodcocks, which are shot from 10 October to 10 January, are exceptions. A calendar, for the latter, arrived despite the opposition of Ispra, the ministerial agency that keeps an eye on environmental data: "TheIspra - notes the same Region in the decree that sets the terms of the hunting calendar - taking into account the strong hunting pressure to which the species is subjected considers it appropriate to close the hunt on 31 December, also for the purpose of rational and correct management of the species ".
Sicily, however, will not adapt: “Taking into account the project Wings of Italy, which is based on the data analysis of the culled animals - adds the decree - believes that it can plan a correct management of the species based on a sustainable collection and therefore postpones the closing of the hunt to January 10th". The last shot from a side-by-side shot in Sicily will be fired on January 30th, when fox and wild boar hunting will end.
