During the meeting on March 30th, the State-Regions Conference was approved on National Plan for the Fight against Offenses against Wild Birds. This is a very important document that has been proposed by the Ministry of the Environment: the time frame examined goes from today to the next two years and provides for legislative initiatives to strengthen the tasks of supervisory and control bodies. The examination of the plan was carried out by Joint Committee for Biodiversity.
Among other things, the draft had been known for a long time by hunting and environmental associations (to be precise since last summer), with the Italian Federation of Hunting which immediately showed itself open to constructive confrontation. The draft, as evidenced by the association, was full of prejudices about hunting and little attention to the technical aspects concerning poaching.
This is why it was pointed out that the topic to be discussed was illicit killing of wild birds, while hunting can certainly not be compared to something illegal. Another regret was caused by the fact that there was no distinction between the fight against the phenomenon and the responsibilities of citizens, which are often unrelated to the hunting environment. Another objection raised to those who promoted the plan by Federcaccia concerns the request to reinstate the crime of "Hunting theft".
