On 24 May the Regional Administrative Court of Tuscany sanctioned the suspension of the fox control interventions throughout the region. The judges were questioned by the appeal of the LAV (Anti Vivisection League) against the resolution number 696 of almost a year ago with which the Regional Council of Tuscany had approved the plan for the 2016-2018 period.
The appeal was accepted in the part in which the areas of intervention indicated in the opinion of theHigher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA). In particular, the withdrawals limited to game production areas or the introduction of populations destined to self-sustain were not found to be in line with the indications of the institute same.
The areas were considered too large as regards the regional territory: we are talking about ZRC, ZRV, wildlife-hunting companies, private wildlife breeding centers, individual low court farms. The plan of the Tuscany Region for the control of the fox was therefore judged to be lacking in motivation and investigation regarding the central problem, namely the consistency of the species on the regional territory. L'Territorial Hunting Area of Siena gave notice of this sentence to inform of the suspension.
