The current war conflict
Arci Caccia adheres to the mobilization called by Europe for Peace to demand the end of the war in Ukraine. The Europe for Peace coalition, formed by the main peace networks in Italy with the adhesion of hundreds of organizations, deeply concerned about the military escalation that has brought the armed conflict to the critical threshold of atomic war, is back in the Italian squares to ask for concrete paths of Peace in Ukraine and in all other armed conflicts in the world. A new common step that takes place after the important mobilization of last July 23 (with 60 cities involved) and the sending of a letter to the UN Secretary General Guterres on the occasion of the Day of Peace for support for multilateral actions, the only ones capable of “Bring a true global democracy, starting from the will for peace of the majority of communities and peoples”.
21, 22 and 23 October 2022
And after the fourth “Stop The War Now” Caravan recently returned from Kiev where it brought the support of Italian civil society to Ukrainian associations and conscientious objectors, as well as new humanitarian aid. The appointment is for the weekend from 21 to 23 October (eight months after the Russian invasion and on the eve of the UN Week for Disarmament) once again with the invitation - addressed to associations, trade unions, groups that are already active for months - to organize various kinds of initiatives to relaunch the appeal already issued in July with the request for an immediate ceasefire so that an international Peace Conference can be reached. In the text signed by the members of Europe for Peace, it is underlined that "the invasion of Ukraine by Russia has brought the war back to the heart of Europe and has already claimed tens of thousands of victims and is on the way to becoming a protracted conflict. duration ”, bringing harmful consequences“ also for the access to food and energy of hundreds of millions of people, for the planet's climate, for the European and global economy ”.
A fundamental negotiation
Reiterating the closeness to the populations affected by the war, he then recalls how it is necessary to seek "a negotiated solution, but so far no political initiatives have been seen either by the States, nor by international and multilateral institutions", underlining how instead it is necessary "that our Country, Europe, the United Nations actively work to promote negotiations by starting a path for an international peace conference which, based on the concept of shared security, will secure peace for the future as well ”. Also in light of the renewed and unacceptable nuclear threats. The basic position of the Italian pacifist movement has also been relaunched since the beginning of the Ukrainian conflict: “Weapons do not bring peace, but only new suffering for the population. There is no war to win: instead we want to win the peace "and for this reason a new national occasion of mobilization for peace is proposed, with a clear objective:" SILENCE THE WEAPONS, NEGOTIATED IMMEDIATELY! Towards an International Peace Conference ”.
