The decision of the Puglia Region of suspend the hunt from 6 to 8 January due to bad weather pushed the regional section of theAbruzzo of the WWF to catch the ball. According to Luciano DiTizio, delegate of the environmental association, it is a just and also a measure the Abruzzo Region should behave in the same way. WWF is asking all Italian regions, primarily those of the Center-South, to suspend all hunting activities in the coming days when temperatures will drop below zero and there will be snowfall at low altitudes.
Di Tizio pointed out that wildlife is unable to withstand such harsh conditions after very cold months and repeated poaching phenomena. The WWF of Abruzzo, then, wanted to point out that in the national law on hunting there is talk of a ban on hunting in land that is wholly or partially covered by snow (except for the alpine areas), as well as in frozen pools of water. The hope of the association is that the hunting calendars are modified for better protect wild animals, which are the unavailable assets of the State.
