WWF Italy has decided to lodge an appeal with the L'Aquila Regional Administrative Court against 2016-2017 hunting calendar of Abruzzo. The regional delegate Luciano DiTizio officially announced the initiative, explaining the reasons. In particular, the same mistakes of past years would have been made, with unconvincing management. First of all, the association disputes the absence of planning and the lack of a wildlife-hunting plan.
WWF recalled how this document is even missing in Abruzzo since 2007, although it is required by law. Consequently, there are no correct indications on the species to hunt and on the duration of the activity. Another reason for the appeal is the pre-opening. The WWF believes that Abruzzo was a "gift to hunters", as the 1 ° September it is a wrong date and not allowed by law, to the point of increasing the hunting pressure on huntable species. The TAR will therefore have to assess the legitimacy of the choice.
The third reason is that of the extension of hunting periods. In practice, for species such as snipe, lapwing, pochard, gargane, whisk, pintail, shoveler and fighter, the Region extended the season until January 19, 2017 instead of December 31, 2016, despite the classification of "vulnerable" or "declining" species. Among the other elements that prompted the association to turn to the administrative judges there are also the methods of collection of the common hare and the longer period for thedog training (over 4 months compared to the established 30 days).
