Starting from 2022, the indemnities at livestock farms that have suffered damage from predation will be paid "at the counter". This means that a much faster administrative procedure than the current one will suffice, which will allow you to submit applications for help immediately after the occurrence of the event, their prompt investigation and subsequent payment within 60 days. This is the main novelty contained in the resolution presented by the vice president and councilor for agriculture of the Toscana Stephanie Saccardi, which for the next two years will make 453.987,64 euros available as relief to livestock farms from the damage caused by wolves from predation.
"This is an innovation that I would define as a real revolution - explains the vice president and councilor for agri-food Stefania Saccardi - Thanks to the new method we are able to reduce waiting times for compensation from 18 to 2 months and we do it to meet the needs of farmers in light of the perception of an actual increase in the number of predators in our region. For this we need more agile tools and responses than in the past. With this in mind, we are working on an act that can facilitate and streamline procedures also for the disposal of carcasses, so as to minimize the commitment of breeders who may find themselves having this need ".
The granting of the grant is subject toassessment of the aggression by the veterinarian Asl and the application on the farm of at least one preventive measure by the beneficiaries (safety fences and LGDs), as required by national regulations. The aid is granted both for direct damage (reimbursement of the preyed head), and indirect costs (veterinary costs related to the treatment of injured animals).
Applications for aid relating to the damage of annuity 2022 must be submitted through the site of Artea (Tuscan regional company for disbursements in agriculture), directly to the territorial sectors of agriculture, immediately after certification by the ASL veterinarian of the predatory event (and in any case no later than March 31, 2023). The competent territorial sectors will, within 60 days of receipt of the application, assess eligibility, determine the contribution and grant the contribution which will then be paid to the companies concerned by theart.
