The Trentino ordinance
"Proceed with the killing of the specimen identified" as the perpetrator of the fatal attack on the 26-year-old runner in the Caldes woods. So reads the contingent and urgent ordinance signed by the president of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti.
Serious danger
Taking into account the situation of "very serious danger to public health and safety, potentially affecting more municipalities", the document provides that the Trentino Forestry Corps continues intensive monitoring of the area where the tragedy occurred, in order to ensure the maximum protection of public safety and security”, as well as to “proceed, in the shortest possible time, with the genetic identification of the specimen that became the protagonist of the attack”.
The next ordinances
The laboratory analyzes on the finds – by the Edmund Mach Foundation – will lead to the attribution of the identification code of the bear in question. "Any captured specimens, suspected of being the one sought, may be temporarily kept in captivity pending genetic confirmation of their identity" reads the ordinance. Other ordinances will follow for the removal of three problematic bears: MJ5, JJ4 and M62: in order to proceed, the (non-binding) opinion of Ispra will be needed: "We received verbal reassurances on the acceptance of these requests too" specifies the president (source: Province of Trent).
