A quiet hunting trip in the Brianza area of Lecco ended badly where a hunter was killed by a shot fired from his own rifle while trying to defend his dogs.
The victim is a 53-year-old hunter from Milan who was hunting with a friend and was hunting with a friend in a wooded area in the municipality of Bosisio Parini, near via Canevè. Shortly after 8.00, while the two hunters were wandering through the woods with their hunting dogs, two Corsican dogs, escaped from the garden of a house, attacked the two English setters of the hunters; considering the size and the aggressiveness of the two Corso dogs who also attacked the two men, the hunter immediately tried to help the hunting dogs to save them from aggression.
So the hunter brandished his rifle holding it upside down, by the barrel, using it as a stick to hit the attacking dogs and put them on the run but in the excitement the man did not take into account the fact that the rifle was loaded and a accidental blow that hit the hunter in full and mortally wounded him. At this point the other hunter did not think twice and before calling for help he took up his rifle shooting at the attacking dogs, one of which was killed, the other seriously injured instead fled and shortly thereafter the ASL veterinarian suppressed him.
Shortly after, the 118 volunteers arrived who unfortunately could not help but ascertain the death of the unfortunate hunter. On site the Carabinieri of the Costamasnaga Station and of the Operational Unit of Merate, as well as those of the Investigative Unit of Lecco who, together with the coroner, carried out the relevant findings.
From the investigations carried out, it emerged that there is no doubt about the dynamics of the accident and that the two Corso dogs, a six-year-old female and a one-and-a-half-year-old son both weighing 50-60 kilograms, had fled after breaking through the fence. of a villa a few tens of meters from the place of the tragedy. In the next few hours, the Lecco Public Prosecutor's Office will decide on any suspects responsible for the hunter's death.
