Important news for shepherds
The new bivouac occupies an area of 9 square meters (for a total volume of 35 cubic meters) and definitively takes the place of the steel box that was transported to high altitude at the beginning of the season. It is a structure that guarantees well-being and comfort to the shepherds: inside there are a stove and furnishings supplied by the breeders company of Ronchi Valsugana, while technological systems and toilets have not been built. The construction work was carried out in compliance with traditional techniques, executive methods and finishes of the place. The material for its construction was partly transported by hand and partly lowered on site thanks to the intervention of the Helicopter Unit of the Permanent Fire Brigade of Trento. This is the fifth structure of this type in Trentino: the intention of the provincial administration is to gradually replace the 16 boxes distributed throughout the provincial territory with bivouacs during the hot season.
Cattle management
Yesterday a sober inaugural moment took place, in the presence of the provincial councilor for forests Giulia Zanotelli, the mayors of Ronchi and Torcegno (respectively Federico Maria Ganarin and Daniela Campestrin), representatives of the Forestry and Faunal Services, as well as the young shepherdess Giorgia Borgogno, who managed about fifty cattle in those places this summer. "The commitment of the provincial administration continues on the front of large carnivores, also to improve the working conditions of breeders and their collaborators, favoring the approach of young people to this activity" explained the councilor Zanotelli thanking the forestry staff who he took care of the construction of the larch work, in addition to the agents of the Trentino Forestry Corps that oversees the territory and in that area he also deals with the management of the wolf. "At the national level, the new Wolf Plan is being discussed, for the approval of which the favorable vote of all the Regions is required: we believe that the good prevention practices promoted in Trentino, which is leading the way at national level in the implementation of these structures are concretely supported by the State - highlighted Zanotelli -. In this way, initiatives like this will be able to spread further ”.
Where is the bivouac
The Sette Laghi locality is in fact frequented by one of the 26 wolf packs that gravitate in Trentino. The prevention works, with the supply of electrified networks and guardian dogs, allowed a decrease in the number of predictions in 2022. “Nature - observed the parish priest, Don Paolo Ferrari during the blessing - must be respected and lived with balance”. The bivouac can be reached from the provincial road n. 65 Panoramic view of the Valsugana, then taking the municipal road that leads to the Prima Busa mountain hut from where the easy Sat E323B path starts, leading to the Sette Laghi area where the building was built. The new structure is located on the hydrographic left of the Ceggio stream, next to the first lake in a flat and panoramic position in a large pasture where, during the pasture period, the cattle of the Cavè and Prima Busa huts are mounted. As mentioned, the bivouac meets the needs of control and prevention for the management of large carnivores, especially the wolf, which has been regularly frequenting the Lagorai for some years now and periodically carries out predations. In the periods of non-use by the shepherd, the structure will be available to the surveillance staff for the control and census operations and at the service of the forest workers involved in the maintenance of the paths, also in light of the agreement in place between the Forest Service of the Province. and Sat (source: Province of Trento).
