THETrentino Environment Forests and Fauna Academy he intends to organize a course to bring experts and non-experts to the fascinating world of hunting horn. As specified by the institution, it is not necessary to have particular musical skills, the only basic requirements are those of curiosity and passion. To guide some basic settings of the course, those who intend to participate are asked for information about musical skills: specifically, the Academy needs to know if you have ever sung in a choir, the ability to read or not. music, what instrument you are able to play and any kind of musical experience or competence.
This academy is also known as "School of permanent training in environmental, forestry and wildlife subjects" and existed in 2010 thanks to a close agreement between the Autonomous Province of Trento and the Edmund Mach Foundation: the latter is also the official seat, in the locality San Michele all'Adige (Trento). The typical lessons for learning to play the hunting horn focus on the rudiments from a theoretical and practical point of view when using brass to perform hunting music.
It is an ancient and unfortunately forgotten tradition, but its recovery and rediscovery are able to restore to all hunters a precise cultural identity and that it can facilitate public recognition of the role of hunting in today's society. The history of the hunting horn is undoubtedly fascinating. The instrument that spread between the 400th and 500th centuries was characterized by a very simple metal circle, which then became helical in shape and with a greater length and an increasing number of musical possibilities.
The signals are the most interesting aspect to investigate in the hunting horn. In some countries, sounds have even been encoded, a sort of international language to mark the phases of the hunting art. Everything was born to make hunting more organized and in tune: we are talking about short-lived pieces of music, but used frequently in various rituals. The ones that can be heard most often are the alarm clock, the salute, the final part of the hunt, the gathering of the shooters and the interruption of the shot. The hunting horn is also used to accompany the arrangement of the remains of animals in the evening: obviously, according to the game and the species that are killed there may be changes in the tracks which have just been listed.
