The alarm trichinella is very high in Sardinia after the discovery in the municipal area of orgosolo (in the province of Nuoro) of an infected fox. The animal was hit by a car and exams revealed the positivity to the parasite. The exact area of the discovery is that of Locoe, to be precise in the open countryside. The carcass was delivered to theExperimental Zooprophylactic Institute for the ritual checks.
Unfortunately, this area of the island is not new to such finds, with infected wild boars and foxes that have increased in number. The positivity proves that the parasite is still present, consequently it is necessary to pay the utmost attention in the case of uncontrolled meat, in particular as regards food consumption. Trained hunters have been adequately trained in recent months to cope with an emergency of this type.
Trichinellosis has been present in Sardinia for twelve years now, with 19 people who were hospitalized due to the consumption of sausages from animals slaughtered without any health checks. Precisely for these reasons, various Italian regions are thinking of establishing one safe supply chain to ensure healthy game without any health risk.
