Hunting horn
The Equipaggio della Regia Venaria returns to perform, on Sunday 29 September, at 16 pm, at the Castello di Agliè (To), for a concert with a strong historical and current flavour. The musical group, created by the Accademia di Sant'Uberto in 1996 to promote the recovery and promotion of the Venaria and other Royal Residences of Savoy, will present a perspective of its musical tradition through the historical links with equestrian art, which has influenced the performance practice of the instrument at the center of the activity: the hunting horn. The event, scheduled in the garden of the Castle of Agliè, with the support of the Crt Foundation and the FIdC “Pro Cultura”, will also welcome some students of the training course held by the Accademia di Sant'Uberto.
A renewed executive practice
From its ancient origins and the Middle Ages, the musical path develops in the courts of the Baroque era that in the 17th century determined the true development of the horn and its transition to art music. The history of the instrument will retrace that of the Royal Residences of Savoy. Between the 18th and 19th centuries, in fact, the new fashions of the art of riding gave rise to a renewed performance practice of the instrument, through new techniques and "musical ornaments", thanks also to the spread of this art from the courts to the population, also as a group performance, up to the present day. The Orleans horn requires continuous application, but does not require initial musical knowledge and there are no age or gender limitations. At the Reggia di Venaria, training courses on the Orleans hunting horn and the "baroque" horn are held every year, a name that recently appeared to indicate the use of the "hunting horn" in art music, a term also indicated by great composers in scores (Vivaldi, Scarlatti, Bach).
