Use of modern devices
With a view to harmonizing the relevant provisions applied by individual states, MEPs Matteo Gazzini and Pietro fiocchi they asked, through a targeted question, the opinion of the European Commission on the use of modern thermal vision and noise attenuation devices in ungulate hunting and sport shooting.
Too diverse a subject
“The sampling of any animal must be as precise, rapid and painless as possible. At a European level, the use of accessory equipment for hunting and common weapons is more diversified than ever, as the matter is the responsibility of each individual Member State, but in recent years the technology has nevertheless evolved, improving performance, effectiveness and safety in the use of weapons. There is then a fundamental ethical aspect linked to the use of modern technology: the use of thermal vision devices improves the visibility of the target, its correct identification in twilight or night-time conditions and the consequent safe killing, reducing to a minimum the possibility of injury and suffering of the animal.
Hunter safety
No less important is noise pollution, an often overlooked but important aspect of hunting, wildlife management but also sport shooting. The mitigation of the sound of the shot has a positive impact on the disturbance of wild and domestic fauna, of communities close to rural areas or shooting ranges and can also improve the safety of hunters" declared Gazzini in his note sent from Brussels.
