The Valle d'Aosta section of Legambiente wrote a letter to Laurent Vierin, Regional Councilor for Agriculture, for an invitation to reflect on the retreat of glaciers and climate change. According to the environmental association, biodiversity is at serious risk. The letter mainly concerns two animal species, namely the ptarmigan , white hare, present in the Alps in a situation that is considered close to extinction.
Legambiente recalled the killing of 12 partridges and 9 hares over the past year. Other countries of the Alpine arc have limited or revoked hunting of these two animals, consequently the association would like scientific studies on the same and their geographical specificities. The invitation is therefore very clear, the Aosta Valley hunters should not have the opportunity to hunt hares and partridges to save the "a few wads of fur and feathers that can hardly resist in the mountains".
The timing of this letter is certainly not accidental. As expected from 2017-2018 hunting calendar of the Aosta Valleyin fact, the expected hunting period for variable hares and ptarmigans is the same, ie from Sunday 1st October (tomorrow's day) a Thursday November 30, therefore two whole months available to hunters.
