Comment on the sentence
Andrea Zanoni, regional councilor of Veneto (Democratic Party), thus commented on the recent ruling of the TAR which revolutionized the hunting calendar for the 2022-2023 season"Yesterday I learned that the Regional Council could issue a council resolution to bypass the provisions contained in Sentence n. 97 of the Veneto Regional Administrative Court of 21 January, which closed the hunting of migratory birds throughout the Veneto region. The sentence of the TAR, pronounced following an appeal by the LAC, ordered the protection of migratory birds by applying the directives issued on the hunting calendar by ISPRA, directives useful for avoiding damage to this transactional faunal heritage of inestimable value".
Crimes and Criminal Code
Zanoni then added: “We must remind Assessor Corazzari, President Zaia and the Veneto Regional Council that there are precedents in the Court of Auditors' conviction of administrators on the concession of illegitimate hunting of specimens of wildlife, as well as the possibility of incurring the crime provided for by the article 650 of the penal code. This is the Court of Auditors ruling of 18 June 2018, which in the second instance sentenced Alois Durnwalder, former president of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, and Heinrich Erhard, former manager of the Hunting Office of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, to pay compensation in favor from the State of 568.125,00 euros each and compensation of 6.192,23 euros each in favor of the Province of Bolzano plus interest, monetary revaluation and expenses for having caused tax damage of the same amount".
Requests to the Region
The note concludes: "I ask Councilor Corazzari, President Zaia and all the Councilors if it is worth risking sentences of this kind to satisfy the illogical requests of Berlato, champion of an extremist world of hunting, and of other hunting associations, who insistently, boldly , pounding and unscrupulous continue to do urgently in these hours".
