Sergio Berlato, regional councilor of Veneto and president of the Third Permanent Commission, presented a motion to clarify the realities skills of the zoophile guards. As specified by Berlato himself, the Regional Council is thus invited to implement the recent ruling by the Council of State. About two weeks ago, in fact, the legal body clarified that these guards cannot intervene in the hunting field, clearing up doubts about their tasks once and for all and on the prerogatives.
The aim of the motion is to give life to initiatives that restore order, given that too often the zoophile guards have gone beyond their actual role. According to Berlato, the sentence of the Council of State reaffirms what is already foreseen in the national hunting law with regard to subjects qualified for hunting surveillance: the latter is reserved only for zoophile guards who are recognized by the various regional laws.
The guards of the animal welfare associations, on the other hand, are in possession only of the prefectoral decree and can only take care of pets. Among other things, as noted in the motion, zoophile guards do not need the gun port for self-defense and do not perform the functions of the Judicial Police. As stated at the end of the advisor's official statement, "We want to create the conditions for what is in effect an abuse to cease as soon as possible".
