Due to the constant attacks on livestock by growing numbers of wolves, many farmers and mountain farmers have decided to abandon their pastures, realizing that the institutions seem to side with the rights of wolves rather than the rights of the people who, with their presence, have continued to ensure the maintenance and protection of the land. This year too, we are dismayed by the continued predation by wolves, and this year too, we are witnessing the squalid blame game played by the institutions.
In the Veneto Regional Council, I pushed through initiatives to support farmers and to request the national government to take immediate action to adopt a National Plan for Wolf Management in Italy, which includes monitoring, census, and, where necessary, culling excess wolves. Unfortunately, the national government continues to side with wolves and not with our mountain farmers and farmers.
