An app will help you to know the streets of Cuneo area where the risk of encountering wild animals is greater. Is called INDICATOR LIGHT, for Android and iOS, and has been made available, free of charge, from the Province: it can be downloaded from the Google Play and Apple stores. The initiative was born from the collaboration between the Universities of Eastern Piedmont (Upo) and Turin (UniTo) and the Province of Cuneo (Local Wildlife Environmental Police Office) and was born starting from the analysis of the data of the accidents recorded in the province of Cuneo between 1998 and 2011, with a verification in the field.
A mathematical model has been developed - explains the Province of Cuneo - which, by relating localizable accidents to traffic factors, the density of animals and the use of the land, as well as the time period, made it possible to generate the map of the most dangerous road sections ". The acronym SPIA means Warning of Danger of Investing Animals. The app notifies you with an audible warning when you are approaching road sections with a high risk of collision. At the moment, 82 sections of about 3-5 km and 126 points considered to be highly dangerous for accidents with ungulates are recorded and used.
