An idea from the mayor of Montalcino (province of Siena), Silvio Franceschelli, allowed the local section of the Italian Federation of Hunting to realize a very interesting project. Students of Montalcino schools will be able to consume wild boar meat for lunch, an initiative that initially encountered difficulties, but which then progressed positively. The food in question is healthy and produced by one supply chain that complies with all the necessary steps and controls, without forgetting the zero kilometer.
It is a typical product of the Sienese municipality, present in abundance and therefore to be exploited. Two wild boars taken with the authorization of the Sienese Hunting Territorial Area in the Tavernelle Hunting Area of Respect were donated to local schools at the end of a series of very important passages. The meats were slaughtered in an appropriate place, frozen and stored to then become the dishes to be distributed through the preparation of the cooks busy preparing lunch for the pupils.
Children will eat a food produced by mother nature, clean and free of any contamination. Among other things, this meat is a source of minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, selenium, iron and potassium, without forgetting the vitamins B1, B2, B3 and E. The cholesterol content, then, is really low. The export of this initiative to other areas where the raw material is equally abundant is not excluded.
