The requests of the provincial Coldiretti
The convening of an urgent discussion table, in the face of the failure to implement the wild boar containment measures, aimed at putting in place decisive and effective action, to counter the proliferation of a harmful and dangerous species, for the safety of the community, economic activities and the environment. This is what Coldiretti Cremona asks for, in the communication that he addressed to the Prefect of Cremona and the President of the Province. In the Cremona area, the presence of wild boars, carriers of diseases and dangers, has grown exponentially.
What does the emergency come from?
"The emergency situation that we are now forced to face is the result of the lack of containment action that we have repeatedly denounced in the squares and in the institutional offices, in the face of the multiplication of wild boars also on our territory" underlines Coldiretti Cremona, recalling the fact that, " following the numerous amendments to the national and regional sector legislation, it is from the month of March 2022 that all the containment activities implemented by the Provincial Police of Cremona in collaboration with the volunteers authorized to kill ungulates are suspended in awaiting clarifications and solutions to the problems that have emerged with the introduction of the new regulations”.
Fund release
In the note, Coldiretti retraces the meetings, and its contribution, aimed at "finding the economic resources for the construction of the rest centers (two are planned, one in the municipality of Castelverde and one in the municipality of Gussola) and the release of funds already in possession of the ATCs which can now also be used for the containment of wild boars". ′′ In the face of all this - Coldiretti Cremona denounces - to date we observe total inertia on the part of the implementers of the containment plan which will only aggravate the numerical situation of the wild boar population. Furthermore, given the approaching sowing season (period during which wild boars cause the greatest amount of damage to crops) this situation will cause a very strong inconvenience to agricultural cultivation activities".
No obstacles
Hence the request by Coldiretti Cremona, addressed to the Prefecture and the Province of Cremona, for "the convening of an urgent discussion and comparison table, so that all the competent bodies proceed quickly with the containment activities throughout the territory of the Province of Cremona, as there are currently no regulatory and operational obstacles". In the face of animals carrying diseases and dangers, for Coldiretti the safety of the community is at stake, increasingly exposed to the presence of wild boars on the roads and in inhabited centres, and the protection of a pig herd which in Cremona has over 900 thousand heads, with our province which is the third territorial reality of Lombardy for number of pigs reared (source: Coldiretti)
