The declaration that the Regional Councilor for Agriculture of the Molise Nicholas Knight at the end of an interpellation on the proliferation of wild boars in Molise today in the Regional Council: "We have our hands tied". In essence, the Region no longer knows which saint to turn to in the fight against ungulates. It is true that the problem is also common to other areas of Italy, but there is no doubt that dangers and damages are always greater, as evidenced by the hundreds of reports of accidents, destroyed crops, raids.
But apparently the solutions adopted by the Molise Region do not seem to have the desired effects and in the immediate future no alternatives are seen, despite the suggestions arrived from various parts, not least the Coldiretti. The interpellation of the majority councilor Aida Romagnuolo aimed to understand what the Region is doing to cope with what is called an emergency. However also define it that way appears misleading: an emergency is in itself temporary. When it lasts over time it becomes a chronic problem. And this is what has been happening for some time in Molise. Cavaliere somehow recognized this, adding to the problem of road damage and dangers too "A social impact created by wild boars, because there is a social alarm that is created by these animals".
So he tried to explain the region's moves. “At this point, hunting alone is not enough, even if it is very incisive, because hundreds of thousands of specimens are killed on the national territory. There Molise region has started the control plans with the selection hunt, we have also activated the emergency calls for the farms that involve the arrival of the selection hunters, but there is not that immediate availability on all 136 municipalities". One of the novelties is represented by the fact that "this year a new control plan for aid to farmers will be introduced which will have to be approved in the next month". But responsibility, according to Cavaliere, has no political color.
“It is not a question of right, left to Five Stars. As for the hunting calendar we have not obtained an extension of the hunting calendar from the Ministry. Unfortunately, the law was sent back to the Constitutional Court and we are forced to keep wild boar hunting open for two months a year and three days a week. This is the limit on the whole national territory, a solution must be found on a matter that belongs to the state. We have our hands a bit tied ”. In the past, the commissioner had accused the current government of inaction, when the possibility emerged for farmers to shoot ungulates, according to a sentence of the Supreme Court (Primonumero.it).
