The attention of the Pisan municipality
The attention of the Municipality of Calci continues on the theme of presence of ungulates, especially wild boars, in the municipal area. A serious problem given that wild boar sightings and reports occur not only in wooded areas, but also near houses, in public gardens and along the streets of Valgraziosa, in short, not only in hilly areas. A presence that constitutes a potentially serious danger to public safety and road traffic safety. For this reason, the Municipality of Calci requested and obtained a new meeting with the representatives of the ATC 14 of Pisa, following which the ATC undertook to activate all the tools envisaged by the regional regulations to limit the phenomenon.
The Tuscan Regional Authority
While the mayor Massimiliano Ghimenti has officially sent the Tuscany Region the request to activate specific interventions for the containment of wild boars also in urban areas: the request, as required by regional law 70/2019, can bring the The Tuscan Regional Authority to authorize the Provincial Police to proceed with various types of actions, in order to guarantee public safety and security. The meeting, which took place on Tuesday 15 November, was attended by the new president of ATC 14 Paolo Graziani, accompanied by the head of driven wild boar hunting Andrea Capaccioli and by the Agrofauna technician Giuseppe Vecchio (damage assessment and prevention). For the Municipality of Calci, the mayor Ghimenti was present together with the councilors Ricotta, Sandroni and Lupetti, the municipal councilor delegated to support for hunting policies Divio Del Moro and the head of the operational unit for civil protection Silvia Lorenzoni.
Wild boars in urban areas
"It was a fruitful comparison - reports the mayor of Calci - also with regard to the regulations and tools available today to stem a phenomenon, that of wild boars in urban areas, which if uncontrolled can also lead to serious damage to property and people. Hence the request to the Tuscany Region for a containment intervention which, as required by the law currently in force, can be entrusted to the Provincial Police as it is to be carried out in specific urban areas where the presence of wild boars has been ascertained, for example near houses of Montemagno, Castelmaggiore, Omberaldi, Tre Colli, but also in areas such as Sant'Andrea and La Gabella, both along the provincial road and at the Cantinaccia”. "We hope that these interventions will be carried out as soon as possible - concludes Mayor Ghimenti -, however we remain convinced that new regulatory instruments are needed to deal with the phenomenon of wild boar proliferation.
containment projects
The Calcesano municipal council has already expressed itself in this sense and by the Atc 14, sharing this objective, they have said they are available to collaborate with us and to seek synergies in the area, both to develop experimental containment projects and, if possible, to arrive at new and more effective legislative systems. Obviously, a synergistic comparison of the other Municipalities of Monte Pisano is needed, since these are problems that cannot be reduced to an administrative border. In the meantime, we invite farms and citizens to report the presence of wild boars and any damage to Atc and the Region, also in order to clearly bring out the dimensions of the problem and to request adequate interventions ". Specifically, in the event of damage from wildlife, farms can request compensation for damages suffered from the competent Atc and the Tuscany Region through the RT25 form, to be presented within 48 hours. While anyone, simple citizen or hobbyist farmer, can request a control intervention in the agricultural area, through the RT24 form.
