Wild boar hunting. The Province of Massa Carrara has canceled that part of the regulation of the Territorial Area of Hunting which allowed all hunters to shoot wild boars in "unsuitable" areas, that is, in those closest to towns, homes, crops.
“Common sense won”, is the comment of Romano Vianelli and Piero Buffa, two “double goals” (registered with the Cpa) who fought for this change. There wild boar hunting - which is containment hunting, ie aimed at reducing the number of ungulates on the territory - is regulated by the Province, which divides (let's simplify) the huntable territories into two parts.
One is the “suitable” area, woods where wild boar can live but whose proliferation must be limited. The bulk of the army of wild boar hunters, which is made up of 2.500 people in the province, goes to these suitable areas, for hunts in teams regulated and authorized by the ATC. Then, there are the non-suitable areas, the more “man-made” ones, closer to villages, farms, roads. Here ungulates should not go there or settle. In the non-vocated territories (10 in all in the province, smaller than the vocated ones) the ungulates must therefore be "eradicated". To do this, we rely on a form of hunting conducted individually.
In Massa Carrara there are about a hundred double goals registered in this list of “singles”, that is, not organized into teams. Well, the Atc Ms 13 (the body made up of representatives of hunting associations, local authorities, agricultural associations that defines local calendars and "norm" of the activity) has issued this year a regulation that gives the right to all hunters of the teams who hunt in areas "suited" to go and shoot in areas not suited. An opening with “noble” motivations: the goal is to kill more animals in the areas closest to fields and inhabited areas where the wild boar does more damage and has become a real scourge.
But, also, this is how Buffa and Vianelli (and not only them) argue, very dangerous. Because, they explain, if all hunters signed up for a single hunt in an unsuitable area, we would end up with 120-130 hunters in a small area. In addition, not organized in teams but around each on their own. Well, can you imagine what can happen? The hunters would shoot at each other, the risk of hitting people would increase exponentially.
So the two "followers of Diana", on behalf of many other colleagues, have initiated an action of pressing on the ATC and the Province to change this rule. And they succeeded. After a series of meetings, the Province backtracked and established that last year's regulation will be implemented again for this hunting season. Which means: only single hunters in unsuitable areas.
“We are satisfied, this is the demonstration that the novelty introduced by the ATC was not very sensible. However, we are not letting our guard down, also because we understand that on the opening day of the boar hunt, last October 2, some teams were allowed to hunt, by way of derogation, within unsuitable areas in the Terrarossa area in Lunigiana " .
