Hunting in Veneto: according to Daniele Stival, “better manage wild boar to protect the environment”.
The management of wild boar in Veneto was one of the central themes of today's day of Hunting Show, the International Exhibition of hunting, nature and sport shooting underway at the Vicenza Fair.
The choice to propose a moment of reflection on this issue - said the regional councilor for hunting Daniele Stival, speaking at the works - stems from the fact that the wild boar, a non-native species and foreign to the Venetian hunting tradition, has always been one of the animals. more difficult to manage and which in numerous contexts, not only within the Veneto region, represents (together with the nutria and the cormorant) the species responsible for the greatest direct and indirect damage, so much so that in many cases it becomes a real emergency.
For this reason - explained Stival - the regional administration, in considering the environment with a 360-degree vision, wanted the "wild boar problem" to be addressed in a broader perspective and therefore not only by committing itself, in concert with the provincial administrations, in the activation of increasingly effective control plans but also, this is the great novelty of this year, promoting the experimental inclusion of this species among the huntable species with a specific provision of the regional council with which they have been defined the guidelines for the management of wild boar in Veneto, starting from careful territorial planning on a cognitive basis.
Hunting is allowed only in areas where the presence of the species is now consolidated and is, within certain limits, compatible with the territorial reality (agriculture, biocoenosis and roads).
Stival underlined the particular importance of the use of the limiere dog as an aid to the operator called for the control and killing of wild boars in terms of the effectiveness of the control action and environmental sustainability.
To this end, the Veneto Region has promoted the creation of two course sessions for "Retrieval dog and / or limiere handlers" which saw the participation of hunters and institutional staff (agents of the Provincial Police and the State Forestry Corps) .
"Today - concluded the commissioner - we deliver the certificates of attendance and passing the course, with the certainty that the acquired knowledge will be made available to the provincial administrations, the hunting world and the entire community to contribute to the correct management of the wildlife heritage of Veneto ".
