Wild boar hunting: Reggio Calabria, the strap hunters of the RC2 Hunting Territorial Area are committed to monitoring the slaughtered wild boars to protect the health of those who consume their meat.
Even the ATC, Territorial Hunting Area called RC2 based in Siderno, within the framework of its institutional activities aimed at organizing the hunting sector and related to it, has promoted a plan aimed at safeguarding public health. In fact, a few days ago, a meeting was held with all the foremen of wild boar hunting, organized by the President of ATC RC2 Giuseppe Angiò, on the initiative of the Commission that manages this hunting activity as follows: Bruno Zema, Domenico Linarello, Salvatore Sgarlato and Francesco Ferraro, with the authoritative presence of the Director of the Veterinary Service of the ASP n. 5 Dr. Francesco Nirta together with Dr. Mario Spezzano. The subject of the meeting was the monitoring of the slaughtered wild boars and the family consumption of the relative wild meat, with an in-depth analysis of the possible presence of parasites and particular attention to the one called “trichinella” which could be present in these ungulates. The Managers of the Healthcare Company, through the projection of special slides, have made the foremen who coordinate all the wild boar hunt in the RC2 Siderno area aware of the possibility of this eventuality whose transmission to humans occurs only via food.
The President of ATC RC2 Giuseppe Angiò, in the initial presentation of the meeting, informed the Team Leaders that the ATC RC2, will formulate as soon as possible, a special agreement with the IZS, Zooprophylactic Institute of Catanzaro, for the analysis to be carried out on the wild boars killed, bearing the relative costs. The commitment required of the foremen will be to take a small part of the sternum of the wild boar and deliver it for the carrying out of health checks.
This initiative, declared the President of ATC RC2 Giuseppe Angiò, represents a small step forward towards a broader and more articulated management of wild boar hunting, which now represents a hunting choice shared by more and more hunters, in compliance with maintenance balances. of the species and control of any damage they could cause to agriculture.
