At the official start of the season opening of the wild boar hunting (28 September - 28 December) the Department of Agriculture, Hunting and Fishing of the Province of Reggio Calabria collects the great satisfaction of the Reggio hunters, in the words of the President of the Atc RC1 Concept Laganà. The Councilor in charge Gaetano Rao, through Sector 10 of the Province of Reggio Calabria, has started, in recent months, a work of mediation between the wild boar hunting teams, in order to make hunting a healthy amateur practice , in a spirit of harmony among the members. This is the thought that the president Laganà of the Atc Rc1 addresses to the Councilor Rao: “The wild boar hunt starts under good auspices. An applause to Councilor Rao for his concerted policy which led the various boar hunting teams to find the right harmony ”.
The important aspect of the 2014 hunting season, which has entered full swing, is the support of the Provincial Hunting Department for the prevention campaign launched by the Department of Prevention Veterinary Area "B" of the ASP of Reggio Calabria, for avert the risk of contamination by "trichinella spp.". He urges Councilor Rao: "I invite the heads of the wild boar hunting teams to carry out health visits to the slaughtered wild boars at the" hygiene points "and slaughterhouses, reported by the Provincial Health Authority, during the hunting season and in selective plans, intended for self-consumption ".
In application of the Regional Circular of 8 September 2014 (prot. 277407), according to the provisions of the DPGR 12 and 13 of 6 February 2014, the inspections of the organs of the killed animals can be carried out in the slaughterhouses reported by the Health Authority, on Mondays. and Friday of all weeks. Alternatively, the organs can be conferred in some structures called, "points of hygiene", jointly identified by the competent health authorities, veterinary services area "B" and ATC Rc Provincial.
In this regard, Councilor Rao: "We have informed the ATC hunters and presidents of the territorial areas (Rc1-Rc2) of the importance of a health prophylaxis that removes the danger of contamination of the meat" to be ascertained, exclusively, through trichinoscopic examination which detects the presence of the parasite in the muscles of the game. Rao's recommendations are echoed by Laganà's appreciation of the ATC RC1 to the ASP of Reggio Calabria "for the service provided to the Atc Rc1-Rc2 in the field of prevention of" trichinella spp. " and the setting up of the "Hygiene points" without forgetting the additional health and veterinary surveillance service for monitoring radioactivity in the meat of these hunted animals ".
Councilor Gaetano Rao comments: "We will monitor the common sense of our hunters in adopting the health circular which requires veterinarians to provide the trichinoscopic examination and the radioactivity examination, in the interest of the health of the final consumer".
