Wild boar hunting: Trento, for the councilor Civettini it is necessary to give a solution to the problem of wild boars also with the introduction of the night vision device in the hunting practice and the extension of the hunting hours.
While in Trentino we only talk about the problems caused by bears and wolves, there is another animal that, at night, makes destructive raids on pastures and crops. We are talking about the wild boar, now present in an uncontrolled manner in our Province, both as a result of abusive introductions carried out on several occasions in the territory also by hunters, which upon spontaneous arrival from neighboring territories (from Veronese, in this case). The damage - constantly increasing - caused by these animals is due to the fact that if they find little food in the woods, they go into the pastures and cultivated areas where, with their snouts, they lift the clods from the ground in search of insects and tubers. From Scanuppia di Besenello to the plateau of the Lessini mountains, to the Ledro Valley, hundreds and hundreds of animals are now estimated. Data not easily updated, but constantly growing, because the ability of wild boars to colonize a territory and reproduce is considerable. Currently the situation appears to be rather compromised. Since foresters and gamekeepers alone can't make it, for the "containment" of the boars the Forest Service of the Province has for some time involved the Hunters Association in the control of wild boar.
Claudio Civettini (former Northern League, now Civica Trentina) also intervened on the problem with a provincial question, asking for concrete and shared answers. Especially in the Besenello and Tremalzo area, Civettini points out, wild boars are destroying grassy areas, where there is a rare botanical system, which supports a natural fauna cycle, and an equally rare nesting and migratory cycle of important species such as the grouse, black grouse and rock partridge. From January, in the Tremalzo area, the wild boars killed by qualified hunters would be about ten. But the intervention, says Civettini, is absolutely not sufficient to rebalance the coexistence system, while the regulation of concessions for wild boar hunting would be incomplete and not compliant with the objectives.
The fact is that these animals have mainly nocturnal habits, while selection hunting is allowed up to an hour after sunset. What Civettini sees as a limitation at the moment. Hence his request first of all to extend the hunting time for wild boar, with the possibility of extraordinary killing concessions, and also the possibility for hunters to use specific technical measures, such as the night vision device (currently prohibited to discourage the practice of poaching), instead of the lighthouse which - explains Civettini - makes the wild boars escape.
Waiting to know the answer that the council will give to the requests expressed by Civettini, we underline how the presence of wolves, now documented and expanding, can itself represent not a damage, but a resource, a further concrete help to restore balance among the species: certainly wolves cannot be forced to feed only on wild boars, but since they are present in abundance on the territory, their interest has already been oriented towards prey of this type.
