Damage to crops
The presence of wild boars in “Bucaletto” (Potenza), which triggered an ordinance by Mayor Telesca, is unfortunately only the “tip of the iceberg” of an emergency that has been going on for years and directly involves the capital and many medium and small municipalities. This is what he claims Cia-Italian Farmers Potenza recalling that the presence of wild boars in Potenza has already been reported on other occasions in city parks and peripheral neighborhoods, in Poggio Tre Galli, Macchia Romana, Santa Maria-Verderuolo district, even in the vicinity of the San Carlo Hospital and schools. Furthermore, farmers in the city districts continue to report constant damage to crops, especially vegetable crops, which are the characteristic of small, mostly family-run businesses in the rural district of Potenza.
Waste materials
In this regard, it is too easy to unload the removal of bushes and weeds onto the owners of agricultural land and/or areas bordering and inside the urban area, as well as ensuring good maintenance regarding hedges and fences, taking care to remove waste materials, or unload the emergency onto the inhabitants of the neighborhoods. We recall - it is written in the note - that since February, the authorization requests presented by farmers for the installation, at their own expense, of traps-manholes for the capture of ungulates and to guarantee the service of collection and disposal of carcasses have been suspended. It is therefore necessary to intensify every action to capture wild boars, taking into account that the ordinances of the previous mayor with the installation of traps have not given the desired results.
Proposals already anticipated
On the damage caused by wild fauna, Cia Potenza will continue the collection of signatures started in recent weeks to rekindle the attention of the highest regional institution on a situation that is no longer sustainable given that the latest measures adopted have not given satisfactory results. The Presidency Office of Cia considers a meeting with the Councilor for Agriculture Cicala essential to simultaneously address the risks represented by Psa (swine fever). Among the proposals already anticipated, a Regional law that provides for an additional mutual fund to Agricat, the adaptation of law 102 and the solidarity fund.
