The total culls
"No excuse is allowed anymore now that the hunting season has started: increasing the killing of wild boars must be the priority". This is what the president of Coldiretti Novara-Vco Sara Baudo and the director Luciano Salvadori in recalling that, to date, the culls exceed only 7 and 700 heads, but the goal of 50 is still far away. As for our territories, based on the data provided by the Provinces, the Province of Novara carried out a total of 839 kills (379 in controls, 315 in selection and 145 in hunting), while the Province of Verbania performed 990 ( 925 in control, 33 in selection and 32 in hunting).
A growing unsustainability
“Therefore, Ordinance no. 61 of the President of the Regional Council of 31 August, both to limit the incidence of damage to agricultural production, for which there is a constant growth and an ever greater condition of unsustainability, and, above all, to avoid the spread of ASF, with the risk that this also reaches our territories. It is necessary to protect the activity of agro-industrial supply chains linked to pig farms that guarantee income, employment and induced Italy, as well as obviously reducing the risk of road accidents - continue Baudo and Salvadori - The measures that have been taken must be concretely put into practice in our Region, aimed at significantly reducing the presence of wild boars on the territory, which introduce exceptions to the performance of hunting activities within the restricted areas, as well as the possibility of exercising selection hunting activities at night.
PSA control
In this sense, moreover, it is urgent to simplify the procedures and adopt the implementing provisions to the Regional Plan of Urgent Interventions for the control of African swine fever and the depopulation of the wild boar species (PRIU), now approved at the end of last July. It should not be forgotten, then, that, in the face of the increase in production costs caused by the Ukrainian war, the economic parameters used - they conclude - to quantify the damage must be reviewed. If, in fact, the methodology introduced with the provision of the Regional Council, last December 2021, could be considered adequate in a condition of normality, now it is necessary to update it to today's market, also adapting the appraisals already prepared. This is in addition to the request to simplify, on the whole, the procedures for requesting compensation for damages, proceeding more quickly and acting in the logic of "real time" ”.
