Even the provincial president of Federcaccia Lecce, lawyer John Ciccarese, intervenes on the story of the Cesine wild boars, which has raised a lot of attention in recent days for the invitation, then retracted, by the WWF to hunters to contribute to the solution of the problem caused by wild boars in a protected area of Lecce. After days of discussions and declarations, the animal rights association, perhaps realizing the own goal made with his invitation, had ended, as usual, for point the finger at hunters by declaring them the cause of the problem.
A position also taken up by the local media, to which the provincial president Federcaccia gave a prompt response: “I am forced to intervene regarding the service on wild boars or pigs in the WWF oasis, broadcast on today's Telerama news programs ”wrote Ciccarese. “For years we have heard of a herd of wild boars stationed in the area of Torre Veneri and Cesine. The wild animals most likely came from the Taranto area where they are common and, across the northern ridge of Salento, they have settled in the Lecce Adriatic belt.
Hunters therefore have nothing to do with it, also because it would be illogical to introduce wild species in protected oases where hunting is obviously prohibited. We therefore reject the sender's stupid accusations made by the WWF against hunters, evidently aimed at hiding the failure of the management of the oases for which the delegated bodies collect public funds which they will have to account for ".
