Containment of wild boars
“We ask that extraordinary problems, such as the proliferation of wildlife now clearly out of control, be tackled with extraordinary tools, because until now ordinary ones have not been enough. We ask the new national commissioner for the swine fever emergency to order the use of the army for the containment of wild boars in Piedmont and Liguria". Thus the regional president of Cia-Italian Farmers of Piedmont, Gabriele Carenini, anticipates the main request that he will make to the new national commissioner for the swine fever emergency, Vincenzo Caputo, while waiting for the first official meeting.
Carenini's words
“The unchallenged spread of wild boars in the countryside - continues Carenini - is causing enormous damage to agriculture. With the beginning of the maize sowing season, entire crops risk being compromised, if not completely destroyed, just as the averted spread of the swine fever contagion would bring one of the largest agri-food sectors of our country to its knees".
A cry of alarm
“The farmers' cry of alarm can no longer go unheard, the competent authorities need to intervene as soon as possible, without hesitation, killing as many wild boars as possible. At this point, we believe that the only possible solution is the use of the army”.
