The directors Bruno Manduca, Giuseppe Mari, Onofrio Casuscelli, Luigi Colarusso, Domenico Marino and Nicola Pascali, as members of theTerritorial Hunting Area VV1, consisting of ben twenty-five municipalities of Vibonese, they say they are “really dismayed” by the reading of the new ungulate selection plan launched by Calabria Region for the Territorial Area VV1, for the period from 15 April to 16 May 2021. In fact, out of twenty-five municipalities, almost all affected by the problematic wild boars both for the massive destruction of agricultural crops as well as for the numerous car accidents, "we cannot understand which criteria have been adopted to include only four municipalities, Maierato, Pizzo, Sant'Onofrio and Vibo Valentia, in the selection plan leaving out 21 municipalities tormented by this phenomenon so much so that often in some of them the wild boars run through the urban centers even during the day ”.
“Very few selectors despite the serious emergency in progress”. "Far be it from us to make sterile controversies - the directors write in the note - but the same curiosities concern the criteria for identifying the selecontrollers used in the plan. Who chose them? Based on what requirements? Is there an evaluation commission? Why are further training courses for selecontrollers being carried out when the existing ones are not used? From what we know in the province of Vibo Valentia there are about two hundred hunters trained for the selection and several others in training phase and yet in the current plan, despite the wild boar emergency in progress, also due to the fact that this year due to the red areas hunting was suspended for a few months, instead of explaining all 'forces', always in compliance with safety rules and regulations, the Region wanted to use only a very few selectors, eleven (11, including some from outside the province), which should be at the same times established by the regional decree at the same time in the four municipalities affected by the plan, making almost nothing the action of reducing the number of wild animals".
“We believe that in these conditions - continues the note - even the gift of ubiquity is not enough for the selectors involved in the plan! We intend to request access to the documents, in accordance with current legislation, both to the Calabria Region and to the Territorial Hunting Area, to understand what real reasons led the plan's implementers to consider only four municipalitiesthe out of twenty-five and eleven hunters out of about two hundred to be used on thousands of hectares and understand how in these terms they can give a serious contribution and help to farmers and administrators of the municipalities who often find themselves forced to solicit the authorities in charge to obtain rapid interventions and effective ".
“Particular curiosity arouses the fact that among the selecontrollers used in the aforementioned plan there are only majority members of the Council of the Territorial Hunting Area, while all the minority members have been excluded despite having the requisites. We ask ourselves at this point: is proximity to the president or vice president of the ATC a fundamental requirement to be included in the plan? We ask the bodies in charge - the directors conclude - to want to quickly intervene so that for the continuation we have some more effective plans capable of giving serious answers above all to farmers and to the sensitivity of local administrators to whom we also ask for their voice ”.
