An important collaboration
To reduce the number of wild boars, collaboration between trained breeders and farmers is triggered. In fact, in the last few hours a memorandum of understanding has been signed between Coldiretti Turin and the civil protection association for the protection and management of fauna which brings together 190 selective controllers authorized to control fauna. Thanks to this agreement, farmers who suffer attacks from wild boars on their fields can call these "professional sorters" to ask for rapid intervention. The agreement follows the course organized by Coldiretti Turin which has enabled 120 "actuators of the control plans of the wild boar species" for the night control of the wild boar including many farmers who will be able to directly defend their fields. For agricultural entrepreneurs who do not have a firearms permit "for hunting use" and therefore are not qualified for self-defense, from today there is therefore the possibility of calling the operators of the association.
Delicate interventions
The Association for the protection and management of fauna has selectors throughout the territory of the province of Turin and operates thanks to an agreement with the Metropolitan City which also relies on the association above all for particularly delicate interventions such as those in the gardens or other appurtenances of the houses. "The sowing season is starting these days - explains the president of Coldiretti Turin Bruno Mecca Cici - it was important to give quick answers to the request for protection that comes from those farmers who see their arable land destroyed by wild boars every year".
Control activity
The association guarantees prompt intervention in all the municipalities of the metropolitan area. The interventions of the association are completely free. In these first months of 2023, around 600 wild boars were killed in the province of Turin during the control activities of the species, "a still highly insufficient number" notes the president of Coldiretti Turin. Only at the Coldiretti Turin area offices in 2022 did requests for reimbursement of damages to agriculture for over 800 thousand euros arrive (source: Coldiretti).
