Wild boars in Rome, the controversy mounted in these hours, following theculling of seven wild boars in the capital, leaves us very perplexed and with a bitter taste, especially because we dutifully return to the memory recent death of the three young sportsmen in Piedmont. Seeing politicians threatening interrogations and complaints for an act not only legal but of pure common sense seems almost an insult to these guys. Three young lives, mowed down on the highway near Novara, due to the presence of wild boars in a place that, similarly to theurban area of the capital it is not part of their natural habitat.
Cities and streets are not places for the happy life of these animals. Prevention means intervening in the countryside where these species are present in an important and harmful way to avoid, through sampling and control, that this species expands and invades places, spaces that cannot accommodate them under penalty of risks for the safety of people, for accidents as well as for possible direct infections or through parasites such as ticks that can carry diseases, even serious, which affect humans and human-friendly animals starting with dogs.
We hope that Parliament, in examining the situation, will grant authorization for the implementation of control instruments in the woods and in the countryside, including the use of the rifle, which allows the selective and scientific control of the species. The spectacularization of the interventions is not necessary, better and safer to prevent and intervene in the appropriate places, that is their natural environment.
